When we give our hearts to God and accept Him as our savior we are saying that we relinquish control over our lives and give Him total reign. We are saying that we change our mind from the path of self righteousness and sin to turn to God's plan for our lives of rightness with Him. Romans 12: 2 reads , "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." What we may not realize is that there is a process that comes with surrendering our lives to God. Jesus Christ was not born, sent to die, and rise again for just some of our sins. God sent His son as a sacrifice because He wants all of us. He wants the whole package - the good, the bad, and the ugly. God wants all of you and is beckoning you to holistically surrender to His Word.
There must be a distinction between our old self and the newness we have found in God. II Corinthians 2:17 reads, "17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" If you do not know God, I hope you can understand that if you decide to accept Jesus Christ as you Lord and savior, he can and will make you a new creature. You will receive the benefits of being His child which include, love, joy, peace, and hope. Further, you will receive a charge to speak about the goodness of God and share Him with all that you meet. You don't have to live in the same rut. God granted us an option. We are never stuck. But first, we must surrender to Him.
We all have needs and desires that we want God to meet. There are issues and circumstances that we have struggled with for years and/or decades. Satan, our chief enemy, would have us to be deceived. How often do we use God's name in vein and blame God for the way our lives have turned out? Even as a believer, I have questioned God. There have been issues that have gone on in my life that has caused me to really wonder why God would allow certain things to happen. God's word is true and His love for us is eternal. Hebrew 13:8 says,"8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Also, Jeremiah 29:11 says, "I know the plans I have for you. Plans not to harm you but to prosper you. To give you a hope and a future. I believe that totally and complete surrender to God often paves the way to our break through. This is what I call Holistic Surrender. Frequently, we feel free to surrender to God all the things that are easy to let go of.
Usually these things are not attached to our heart or mind in any way. But what about the things that we have placed as a priority in our lives. More than likely, these are things that we desire and work on over our relationship with God. Some of us need to surrender, not just our work, but our attitudes, mindsets, televisions, money, friendships, and even unhealthy ideas about family relationships. If there is anything in your life that takes precedence over God, you must give it up. When we truly delight in the Lord and commit our ways to Him, everything in our life is subject to His will. In this fashion, we can come closer to achieving our full potential and develop the intimate relationship with God that He so longs for. Psalm 37:4-6 reads, " Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: 6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.
Holistic surrender to God constitutes positioning your whole self in His will. It is God's desire for you to shine as bright as the stars. He has the best planned for you but He will not begin the plan without your submission. Surrender your whole life to God today. When we give God control as head of our lives, our world as we know it improves for the better. The answer to your prayers rests in your decision to surrender. Psalms 46:10 reads, "Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the Earth."
