It is not God's will for us to suffer nor does God delight in our pain and anguish. God wants us to live healthy and fruitful lives. He desires that our hearts are pure and that we are moved to worship Him in spirit and in truth. He made us to freely love Him and to love each other. It is our free will that permits us to choose from a bevy of different options. We can choose to walk in obedience, or we can choose disobedience. Where we focus our mind is where our actions will soon follow. What we have to really consider is the weight of our choices.
It is really naive to think that we are the only individuals affected by the things we do. Sadly, in every situation or circumstance you can find someone who is directly or indirectly affected by your choices. In II Samuel 12:11-12, it reads, “This is what the Lord says: Because of what you have done, I will cause your own household to rebel against you. I will give your wives to another man before your very eyes, and he will go to bed with them in public view. You did it secretly, but I will make this happen to you openly in the sight of all Israel.” In this scripture, it tells the consequences given to King David who knowingly killed the husband of a woman he was sexually attracted to in order to claim her as his wife. In his midst of his willful deception David did not realize what he was exchanging. Instead of thinking with his heart, he thought with his head. Sadly, his choices literally ended up costing the lives of innocent people and allowed deception and murder to enter his household.
While I was in prayer the Holy Spirit revealed to me the weight of my choices. God informed me that the issues that I fail to confront and deal with are the issues my children will be saddled with. When I strive to confront myself and my problems I give my future children the confidence to conquer that issue as well. We can no longer afford to live just for ourselves. We must set in our minds to live for others. This is a call that is blasted from the heart of Heaven. God is calling us to live our lives beyond our own desires and needs. Check your heart. What are you really after? What or who are you living for? One small dance on the wild side can end in a lifetime of disaster. In the end, it is never worth it.
It is so important to check what you have allowed to enter into your heart. It is a biblical principle to reap what you sow. Galatians 6:7-8 reads, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life." If you find yourself constantly in bad situations, one important activity to pursue is to evaluate what seeds you have been sowing in your life and into the lives of other people. Seeds can be as simple as thoughts and as powerful as destructive words. Remember, the minute something infiltrates your heart, your life will respond accordingly.
In his book, The Heart Revolution, Pastor Sergio De La Mora states, "The course of a person's life will always be determined by the condition of their heart." Not only is your life in your hands, but often the lives of other people depend on the decisions you make. Let's walk away from the bonds of selfishness and look beyond immediate gratification. Which direction is your heart pointing? It is never to late to change your mind and sow positive seeds in your heart. It starts with your relationship with Jesus Christ. In Christ, you can renew your mind and wipe the junk and negative thinking from your heart. You can conquer temptation and sin. The prayer of salvation is always available to you. Open your heart and receive. May God bless you to continue to evaluate your heart and check your motives. God desires to be the beat of your heart. It is God's desire to create in you a pure heart and to renew a steadfast spirit within you (Psalm 51:10). All you have to do is ask.
