Dealing with Pain

"During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob." -Exodus 2:23-24

Life isn't perfect. For some of us, life can turn into the worst nightmare. Our greatest fears can become reality, leaving us feeling helpless and alone.  Despite how dark and dreary it may seem there is a bright light in the midst of darkness. He can bring order to the chaos around you and provide understanding to your confusion. His name is Jesus. All he requires is your open heart.

Following God does not mean that devastation and pain will never come your way. But His love and grace guarantee that in your weakness He will be your strength (II Corinthians 12:9). You will not have to go it alone anymore. When you cry, God will dry your tears. His Holy Spirit will comfort you on your worst days and celebrate with you on your best. In John 14:26 it states, "But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things..." The challenges that come your way do not have to be your problem alone. It does not take extreme amounts of effort to get God's attention. Your tears and sorrow are enough. Just as God heard the children of Israel, he hears you. It's ok if you don't have to words to say. He can interpret brokenness and grief. Just call on his Name. Roman 10:13 states, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

What we must understand is God's timing is perfect. When we trust in him, God may not answer us when we want him to but when he does, his ways make all things new and work together for good (Romans 8:28). Our pain provides an opportunity to get even more intimate with God and build a stronger relationship. While it takes patience to see through the hurt, God wants to be given the opportunity to show you that He can and will do all things above and beyond anything you can ask, think or imagine (Philippians 4:13). Don't be afraid. Give yourself time to grieve and open your heart up to God. Your help is just one prayer away.
