Every day of the week is a gift including our beloved Monday. This is your day. Own it. Embrace it. Look forward to it. Your perception determines your outcome.
For a lot of people. high anxiety builds on Sunday night. At one point in my life, I started to dread going into work by Sunday night. I was not living in joy about the start of a new week. I had low expectation. My disdain for Monday only displayed my unbelief. God has so much more in store for our lives. Monday is a new beginning. It is our outlook which determines if we will just survive or if we will thrive.
My answer to the the question, "How was your weekend?," became laced with my hope and desire to avoid a new start of the week all together. I often replied with the following:
"Ugh! It wasn't long enough," or the ever so short and simple, "Well it's Monday," (this one requires a very coy eye roll).
What if as a child of God, I decided to act like it? We are made new in Christ. Monday is a new start to a new week that provides a new opportunity. You have the chance to forget about the past and open yourself up to what God has in front of you. Too often we wait for Friday. We seek three days where we think we have control to do what we please. Weekends are great but constantly flocking to Friday is a sign of work avoidance. Fulfilling meaningful desires requires work. A disdain for Monday is an indication of a deeper problem. Hating Monday conveys our displeasure with our life's choices. If we loved our lives then Sunday night would come and go without a murmur or a prayer for it's extension. Maybe it's not Monday that needs to change, maybe it's us?
God is the author and finisher of new beginnings. We pray daily for things to change, however we must embrace the space that God is giving to us to make new inroads in our lives. We cannot afford to spend time looking back and harboring low expectations. Today is a new chance for us. Use Monday to cherish everything in your life of value. If you haven't called your family enough, start making phone calls. Take your dream off the shelf, speak up, value your voice and work on your gift. It's our time and our day. We don't get it back. Show Monday some love. It's there for you.
