With free will, God has given us all the ability to actively choose our fate. We may not be in control of the situations we are born into, or the decisions that other people make but we have direct responsibility for the way we choose to respond. For many of us, we desire God to make monumental changes in our lives. We want to be debt free, attain a different job, a positive change in our family, or a fresh start. Just as plainly God spoke the Earth into existence, we can too create the change we desire by the words we speak. It could be that the biggest change you need to make is in your language. The way you choose to speak about a situation, person, or things has a direct effect on the outcome(s) or fruit you will eat. If you choose to believe we are made in the image and likeness of God, then you can bare to understand that your words have power.
We have to work to not defeat ourselves with our words before we begin the battle. Living our lives with a despondent attitude of defeat will one bring more sorrow our way. We have to get out of the habit of blaming others and taking responsibility for our role in our own situations. "He/She made me!" has never held up in court, nor is it an adequate excuse in the kingdom of God. Unless someone violently forces you into an action, no one can truly make you do anything. You always have choices. Choose life today. Surrender your bad attitude and negative speech for joy and an optimistic outlook. Eliminate the terms "never", "always", and "all the time."
Romans 8:37 states, "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." We all need a reminder sometimes. I often have to check myself and my heart to ensure that I speak the way my Father (God) thinks of me. God loves us. We need to begin to speak like we are heirs to God's throne. As Pastor Sergio De La Mora of Cornerstone Church stated in his message this past Sunday, "Live with the courage and boldness that signifies the access you have to God." This becomes possible when you open your heart to Jesus Christ.

Yes it does have the power of life and death. I remeind myself of that daily even when I am upset.
